Seamless Square Mystery Knit Afghan

written by KnotEnufKnitting January 27, 2017

HAVE YOU EVER KNIT AN AFGHAN BEFORE?
If you have, you realize how much time and energy is spent working on it. Afghans will take hours and hours to knit. Sometimes, you can get really tired with the pattern. A lot of afghans repeat the same rows over and over again. This is fine, but when you get bored with a knit, it seems to take forever! Or if you haven’t knit an afghan before, maybe it is because you are overwhelmed at the thought.

But, hand knit afghans are extremely beautiful and so comfortable. Who doesn’t enjoy sitting under a warm afghan on a cool winter or fall day? I must admit that I sure do!

I also love the idea of an afghan that looks like a quilt. I have seen afghans where each square is knit individually and then all seamed together at the end. This is a neat idea, but the thought of seaming all those squares is daunting. I wanted to design an afghan that has the same effect but is completely seamless!

Putting two and two together, I designed a mystery afghan knit that will be knit over the period of the next 48 weeks. At the end of this mystery knit, you will have an afghan that is made up of 48 squares and will be completely seamless! You will also not get bored, as each instalment will be different. Plus who doesn’t love cables?

Many of the squares feature cable stitches. So, if you love cables, seamless knitting and mystery knits, this is definitely for you!

HOW DOES THIS WORK?
After purchase, you will receive the first portion of the afghan pattern. You have 6 weeks to complete the first portion. Every 6 weeks, I will release the next step of the Mystery Knit. There will be 8 releases in total. By Christmas next year, you will be a proud owner of a beautiful quilt-like afghan. The afghan will be standard size – 48” x 60”. Join in the fun!

This afghan is worked with worsted weight yarn. The yarn I used for the pattern is Red Heart Soft, however any worsted weight yarn will work. I recommend to buy enough yarn to complete the project at the start.

Each portion of the mystery knit should use 255 yards. However, the first portion will use more to get started. You will need approximately 9 balls of red heart soft yarn or the equivalent of 2300 yards for the entire afghan. (You might want to grab an extra ball just in case). You can be creative with colours. I knit my afghan in one solid colour, but it would look very neat in multi-colours as well.

Please join in the thread in my Ravelry group to knit with others who are working on this mystery knit. Here we can post questions, pictures and just have knitting fun!

I am looking forward to you joining in on this mystery knit. You will not be disappointed!
