Welcome to our first Mystery Knit Shawl Knitalong

JOIN THE MKAL

Join us and many fellow knitters in our first Mystery Shawl knit along! The pattern doesn’t go live until April 23, but you can get the pattern now, and get prepped for the knit! Even if you’re ordering your yarn online, you’ll have time to receive it before the MKAL begins.

This shawl was inspired by the change from winter to spring. Melting puddles changing to green grass, and flowers sprouting from under the snow. Lara wanted to knit a shawl from worsted weight yarn that would be beautiful to wear, and had both lace and cables. We love the look of lace and cables combined. This shawl is unique and has different stitches put together in a very interesting way.

Skill level:

This pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter or an adventurous advanced beginner.

What will you learn?

Cast on:
The recommended cast on for this shawl is the Chinese Waitress Cast on. There will be a video tutorial for those who are unfamiliar with this cast on. This is only a recommendation Other casts on can be used as well.

Life lines:
Those of you who haven’t knit with life lines, this would be a great project to add a life line.

And of course.. Lace and cabling. Further enhance your cabling and lace skills. There are a variety of lace patterns in this mystery knit. If you haven’t cabled without a cable needle, this project would be a great place to start and/or to practice! See our video on How to Knit Without a Cable Needle.

Size:

This shawl is asymmetrical.
Top Length: 60″ (152 cm)
Height: 30″ (76 cm)

Yarn:

We designed this shawl with Rowan Pure Wool Worsted Weight yarn. Our colour selection is Gold.

You will need 900 yards (800 meters)
Clue 1: 180 yards (160 m)
Clue 2: 200 yards (180 m)
Clue 3: 180 yards (160 m)
Clue 4: 180 yards (160 m)
Clue 5: 160 yards (140 m

How does it work?

The mystery knit will be a series of 5 different clues. These clues will be launched 2 weeks apart.

Clue 1: April 23 – Official Launch
Clue 2: May 7
Clue 3: May 21
Clue 4: June 4
Clue 5: June 18

After purchase and on the 23rd of April, you will receive the first clue for this mystery knit shawl. It will be automatically downloaded into your Ravelry library, or you will receive an email with instructions to download the clue. One each clue date, you will receive the next section of this pattern. After 5 clues, this shawl will be complete!

We’re excited to have you join the MKAL for our shawl! It is okay if you fall behind. These clues can be knit as quick as you want or as slow as you want. It will be up to you to decide how you want to pace this shawl. It is meant to be a fun way to knit a shawl and should be no stress. 🙂

Where does this mystery knit take place?

This mystery knit will take place in a Ravelry group. You are welcome to join and have fun with the knitters there. This is a great way to meet knitters like you online. It is also a great way to get help or inspiration from many different knitters all over the world! It is amazing what skills are passed along during these Mystery knits. You can also join our Facebook group and our knitalong group. People there will also be knitting this shawl. You just need to post a question or a picture, and you will get response.

"This sweater pattern is easy, pretty, fun to knit, and looks so professional! Even picking up stitches which isn't too easy for me, she makes it easy to do! It's great, can't wait to finish it and begin the hat that goes with it. Lara is patient and answered all my questions and dealt with my frustrations!" (Little Elsa's Sweater)
