Whispers of Autumn Pullover

written by KnotEnufKnitting September 21, 2017
whispers of autumn pullover

WHISPERS OF AUTUMN

It’s that time of year… I get this nostalgic feeling every year as the days begin to shorten and the air takes on a hint of crispness that wasn’t there during the hot and sunny days of July and August. The leaves start to turn before we even realize it’s happening, and the school bus can be seen on the gravel roads of the prairies once again. This year, our little Cora (shown in the picture), starts her first adventures at school. Kindergarten is always an exciting year! Maybe this pullover will be worn for class pictures…

Autumn is here, and with it the cool fall breezes and beautiful blue skies. I love this time of year, the busyness of summer starts to wind down, and we get back into routine. As the days begin to cool and harvest has been finished, it is time to pull out the knitting needles in full force again! Who doesn’t love to sit with a fresh cup of coffee/tea and a wonderful knitting project on hand?

I named this sweater ‘Whispers of Autumn’, as I feel this time of year begins to whisper of autumn. The days are sometimes as hot as a summer day, but the evenings cool down, the sunsets are brilliant, and the harvest moon begins to show its beauty. Silently, the leaves begin their journey from green to yellow, preparing for the winter ahead.

While I love a full length sweater for cold winter days, this pullover vest is perfect for a layer on a fall day. Just warm enough for those crisp autumn evenings, or cool mornings waiting for the bus to pull up. Basic enough to be worn with anything, but the cable detailing on the sides of the sweater are what makes this sweater unique!

Whispers of Autumn is knit flat. Surprising, as most of my sweaters are knit in the round. But, no worries, this pullover is also seamless! This is knit from the bottom of the front to the bottom of the back, leaving a hole to add the collar in at the end. This pullover is oversized to allow for a comfy fit! Another great thing about this pattern is that it comes in sizes 3 mths to 10 years. This was designed with Loops and Threads Impeccable Solids, but my testers used a variety of worsted weight yarn that worked excellent! Enjoy this fun, relaxing knit! Happy Autumn! I hope you have a long, warm fall!
