Simple Raglan Sweater Tutorial

Have you ever thought about seamless knitting? Knitting where there are no seams? Read my blog here: WHY CHOOSE SEAMLESS KNITTING

Also, have you ever knit a Raglan style sweater? I used to knit sweaters in pieces and sewed the pieces together at the end. However, I did not like sewing knit pieces together so I started knitting as much as I could in the round. Then, I discovered the Raglans Style knit sweater and became hooked and never looked back.

I really enjoy knitting the Raglan sweater. All of my sweater designs use the Raglan technique. It is easy to use once you have mastered the technique. It can be daunting to try the Raglan sweater for the first time. I have heard from many knitters that they would love a Raglan sweater tutorial. This is my first sweater tutorial for a basic Raglan sweater. I will be creating more raglan sweater tutorials with more complicated designs.

This tutorial is divided into 6 steps:
1: Knit the Collar
2: Split stitches into 4 sections
3: Work the Yoke of the sweater
4: Divide off sleeve stitches
5: Work body of sweater
6: Work Sleeves

Each section includes a video tutorial. This tutorial shows how you will knit each section.

Video tutorials included:

  1. How to work the double chain cast on in the round.
  2. How to split stitches into 4 sections.
  3. How to work the yoke.
  4. How to divide sleeve stitches
  5. How to work body of sweater
  6. How to work sleeves
  7. How to use magic loop
  8. How to use 2 circular needles

Needles: You will need circular needles to work this sweater. I recommend using 16″ (40 cm) size for baby and child. You may also want to use this size to start the adult sweater. You will then want to switch to 24″ (60 cm) as you work the adult size. You can use 4 dpns to work the sleeves. You can also use magic loop or two small circular needles. I have included these video tutorials in this pattern.

"This sweater pattern is easy, pretty, fun to knit, and looks so professional! Even picking up stitches which isn't too easy for me, she makes it easy to do! It's great, can't wait to finish it and begin the hat that goes with it. Lara is patient and answered all my questions and dealt with my frustrations!" (Little Elsa's Sweater)
