Mystery Knit Afghan 2019

written by KnotEnufKnitting December 14, 2018

Mystery Knit Afghan 2019

It is that time of the year again!  Many of us have finished or are finishing the border on the 2018 Mystery Knit Afghan. What a great knit it has been! We have really enjoyed watching all of you knitters working each clue throughout the year. The finished afghans are amazing! A knit well done. We have been asked about another Mystery Knit Afghan for 2019. How could we resist?

You can purchase the pattern here.

Welcome to our 2019 Mystery Knit Afghan! If you haven’t joined in this amazing MKAL experience, this is the year! We are combining two of our favourite stitches this year to create another unique and spectacular Afghan. The theme for 2019 is Cables and Lace. A seamless knit afghan with multiple sections of cables and lace that is knit throughout the year. Each section bringing a new challenge and excitement! It will be difficult to put down. Honestly, we have found this is the best way to start and finish a full size afghan! Since we have started the MKAL’s, we have actually completed the afghans! Plus, no boredom of knitting the same stitch over and over again.

You can choose one of three sizes:

Standard Size Afghan 48” x 60” (122 cm x 153 cm )

Bonus Size 60” x 72” (153 cm x 183 cm), or

Lap Blanket Size 36” x 45” (91 cm x 114 cm)

How it Works

Our afghan pattern is a one time purchase. Upon purchase you will receive an information packet, including info on yarn type, yardage, and needles. Then, on January 15th, you will receive pattern instalment #1, followed by 6 more throughout the year.

January 15th – Clue 1

February 15th – Clue 2

March 15th – Clue 3

May 15th – Clue 4

July 15th – Clue 5

Sept. 15th – Clue 6

Oct. 15th – Clue 7

The MKAL

This is where the fun happens! Be sure to join the Mystery Knitalong on Ravelry with this afghan pattern. We have such a supportive, encouraging and fun group, it’s like a virtual knitting club.  You will be able to connect with knitters from all over the world! It is amazing to see all of the afghans being knit at the same time. All of your questions will be answered, and there will be lots of inspiration for colours and techniques! We have a spoiler and a non-spoiler thread, for those who like surprises!

Here’s the Deal

You can purchase the pattern on Ravelry here.

Like we mentioned above, this years blanket theme is cables and lace. We are loving the way these two stitches come together to create an elegant look. We promise that every section will have lace and cables combined in a new and unique way. Enjoy the challenge of mastering each section that will never leave you bored. Join the awesome MKAL group for encouragement and to support fellows knitters. It really is a great experience. Plus, your afghan will be ready for Christmas! (If you can give this stunning afghan away.. )

Colour Palettes

We have chosen KnitPicks Simply Wool Worsted for our afghan yarn this year. We are loving the natural look of the fibres, all of the yarn is undyed and in its natural colour. Something new for us, and we are enjoying working with this wool! All of our colour palettes below use variations of this wool. Any combination of these colours will be gorgeous, or use a solid colour which will work wonderfully as well! Feel free to use our palettes for your blanket, or for inspiration! Any worsted weight yarn will work for the afghan! You can use a new colour for each section, or use any solid colour for the entire afghan.
